In June of 2007, we enrolled Tatum in a Mommy & me gymnastics class at a local gym. It was just something special for us to do with her since she had just become a big sister. Little did we know that 5 years later she would still really, I mean really love gymnastics. She has come a long way from that little girl who didn't want to walk in & was crying at her Lil' Flip Olympics. She made it through that one & her final year of the Olympics actually got to be the "torch bearer" to light the cauldron.
Fast forward 3 years, to her first gymnastic meet. This competition is an in house meet with just her team, meant to give them some experience before bigger events.
She has spent hours preparing at the gym & at home (church, grandparents, the park, Target, etc., basically any place that had enough room for her flip around) for meet season & she was ready to demonstrate her skilz!
Here she is before warmups.
Nervous excitement.
(She will actually have a competition leotard & warmup for her other meets.)
Here are a couple of her teammates, cute little gym rats, huh?
This little guy was amazing!
Meets last 3-4 hours & he sat there quietly without complaining.
Cross deserves a gold medal for that!
And here's the prize.
Look at that face, PRICELESS!
Tatum's first meet was a success!
1st place-bars
1st place-beam
1st place-floor
2nd place-vault
&
1st place-All Around!
Tatum has gone from a little girl who refused to compete to a little girl who after the meet was asking when the next one would be. Her confidence level has grown. She has wonderful coaches that really care about her & make gymnastics super fun.
She says she wants to go to the Olympics, she wants to be the next Jordan Weiber. Well, I don't know if that's going to happen but there is nothing wrong with a dream! And I'll be there cheering her on!
Way to go, Tatum. You continue to make your Mom & Dad super proud!!!
(I have to say, I can completely identify with Allie Raismen's parents.)
