Memorial Marathon

Every year OKC has a marathon to remember the victims of the Murrah building bombing. They have a kid's marathon as part of the race. Children log 25 miles over 2-3 months time by walking, biking, running, or sports & then the day of the marathon they run the last 1.2 to complete an entire marathon length of 26.2 miles. Tatum decided that she wanted to participate this year (she found out that you receive a medal when you finish). So, in February we started logging our miles waiting for the big run on May 1st.
We woke up that Sunday to wind, rain,& cold temperatures, but that wouldn't stop Tatum from finishing what she started (remember there is a medal to be had).

Here she is shivering before the race. We had to wait a long time because they had to postpone the start by 45 minutes due to lightning.
As we were walking up to where her school was supposed to meet, she said I don't like this marathon. I was in total agreement, it was freezing!
Some of the Miller Milers
Several didn't show up, but Tatum & one of her classmates (to the left of her) sure did!
After the run, medal around her neck, completely soaked, & frozen to her core.
I was so proud of her, she ran the entire 1.2 miles only stopping so I could tie my shoe & when we were done she said, "Mommy, this was fun!"
Looks like this might be a yearly thing.
Way to go Tatum!
